I have to admit that I’m not always very creative when it comes to Valentine’s Day gifts for my husband. In the past I have definitely been guilty of a last minute card, a really big smile and a little shrugging of my shoulders. Always going to bed thinking, “I’ll do better next year.” So this time around, not wanting to feel like a horrible wife again, I actually came up with an idea ahead of time!
Recently Matt has started playing golf quite a bit. Call it a hobby, or call it an escape from the craziness that goes on around here. Either way, we all need a break sometimes, so this Valentine’s Day I wanted to get him something to support his new venture. Since he’s not really that big on chocolate, I thought why not a heart shaped box of golf balls instead!
It was harder than I thought to find a heart shaped box that wasn’t already full of chocolate and didn’t have a big brand name written all over the front. So I decided to order this one online from Country Kitchen Sweetart.
I picked up some decent golf balls (turns out there is a huge price range) at Big Five and just to be cute I took them out of their original packaging and dropped each one into a red paper candy cup. And of course, I had to add my silly homemade label to top it off.
As an after thought, I arranged some tees in a smaller heart box (I purchased two different sizes just in case) and I think it makes a nice addition to the gift!
I’m planning on leaving these goodies in Matt’s trunk so the next time a golf trip comes up there is a nice little surprise waiting. Cute right? There’s no way these efforts are going unappreciated and I actually get to feel like a worthy valentine this year!
Thanks for reading!
UPDATE: Unfortunately, since this post was published, the exact heart shaped box I used is no longer available. Here are a few options that might work instead. Bags & Bows has a heart shaped box that is about the same size as the one I used. I also found a variety of heart shaped boxes at aspecialtybox.com. The best option might be this one from Box & Wrap. It says that that you can “use the heart lift for taller chocolates” which might be perfect since the golf balls are actually taller than most chocolates. I hope this update helps! Good luck to those of you attempting this project!
